The Local SEO Playbook for Indian Businesses
How to dominate your city search results in 90 days — a step-by-step playbook.
By the Forecast Creatives team · Updated September 2026
Why local SEO matters more than ever
"Near me" searches have grown 500% in the last five years. When someone in Indore searches "best dentist near me" or "interior designer in Bangalore," Google shows a map pack with three businesses. If you're not in it, you don't exist to that customer.
The good news: local SEO is the most winnable form of SEO. You're not competing with Amazon. You're competing with three other businesses in your city — and most of them are doing it poorly.
The 90-day playbook
Week 1–2: Google Business Profile (GBP) foundation
- Claim and verify your GBP
- Complete every field: categories, hours, services, attributes
- Add 20+ real photos (exterior, interior, team, products)
- Write a 750-character business description with keywords
- Add your top 5 services with descriptions
- Set up messaging
Week 3–4: Reviews engine
- Create a short review link (g.page/yourbusiness)
- Ask every satisfied customer — SMS, WhatsApp, email, in person
- Target: 5–10 reviews/month minimum
- Reply to every review (positive and negative)
- Never buy fake reviews — Google detects and penalizes
Week 5–6: Website local signals
- Add your city + service to your homepage title
- Create a dedicated "Contact" page with NAP (Name, Address, Phone)
- Embed Google Map on contact page
- Add LocalBusiness schema markup
- Ensure mobile speed under 3 seconds
- Add click-to-call buttons
Week 7–8: Location landing pages
- If you serve multiple areas, create one page per location
- Example: /interior-designer-bangalore, /interior-designer-mysore
- Each page needs unique content — not copy-paste
- Include local landmarks, testimonials from that area, and photos
Week 9–10: Citations & directories
- List your business on: Justdial, Sulekha, IndiaMART, Practo (if healthcare)
- Ensure NAP is identical everywhere
- Add to Bing Places, Apple Maps
- Local chamber of commerce directories
Week 11–12: Content & links
- Publish 2–4 blog posts with local keywords
- Get mentioned in local news, blogs, or community sites
- Sponsor a local event and get a link
- Partner with complementary local businesses for cross-links
What to measure
- GBP views, calls, direction requests (from GBP dashboard)
- Rankings for "your service + city" keywords
- Organic traffic to location pages
- Review count and average rating
- Form fills from local traffic
Common mistakes
- Keyword stuffing in GBP description (Google penalizes)
- Inconsistent NAP across directories
- Ignoring negative reviews
- Creating fake location pages for areas you don't serve
- Copy-pasting the same content across location pages
Realistic expectations
Local SEO compounds. In month 1–2, you'll see small improvements. By month 3–4, rankings shift noticeably. By month 6, you're either in the map pack or close. If you stop at month 2, you'll see nothing. Consistency is the entire game.
